Natural Beauty Tips for Spring

Now that the sun is starting to shine a little brighter in the world and the days are once again getting longer, it’s time to look forward to the spring and summer seasons and all the fashion and beauty trends that go along with them! Which is why I’ve recently been really focused on learning how to do my makeup in a way that is fairly natural and glowing. I love the natural beauty look, especially during the warm seasons! So today, I just wanted to share a few of the tips that I’ve learned over the years that can help you show off your natural beauty!

Braid Your Hair Overnight

Whether you have naturally straight or curly hair, there are always days when we want to change it up a little. I know from personal experience (since my hair use to be VERY curly…it’s calmed down a little as I’ve gotten older) that it can be hard to keep frizz and flyaways under control. If you want to keep your hair looking natural and wavy during the day, a handy trick is to put your hair up in a loose braid when you sleep at night. When you wake up in the morning you can simply brush it and add some serum and your hair will be beautiful all day long. *Tip: If your hair doesn’t hold curl or wave very well, try dampening it just a little before braiding it!

Keep Your Teeth White

A pretty smile can brighten your face without a ton of make up or accessories. Now I’m not saying you have to do sign up for expensive treatments to have the perfect teeth. I just mean find healthy ways of taking care of your teeth because they add so much to your natural glow! Not to sound too much like your mom, but be sure to see the dentist every 6 months. I use to roll my eyes every time my mom use to tell me the same advice, but now I get it! The dentist will keep your teeth looking the best that they can look; however, if you’re wanting a little more help with the whitening side, but are wanting to avoid places such as Bel Red Center for Aesthetic Surgery or expensive whitening strips, then you can also look for natural whiteners…such as rubbing the inside of a banana peel on your teeth every day for a few minutes. I know! It sounds crazy! But I’ve heard it works. The natural chemicals in the banana peels will help keep your teeth white (and strong too)! If you try it out, please let me know how it goes!

Less is More

It took me a LONG time to realize this simple statement is true. Less is more. Instead of caking on the foundation in the morning to get a flawless finish, possibly consider how wearing a little less or hardly any could actually make you look more naturally beautiful…especially in the spring and summer when your skin is getting more Vitamin D. I definitely think there’s a time for a full face, but I’ve even had to help myself understand that that time isn’t every day. One simple swap I’ve made that has allowed me to still feel confident while also looking like I’m wearing less makeup is to go for a tinted moisturizer rather than a full coverage foundation. The sheer coverage makes your skin evened out, while also helping to hydrating it! The less we put on our skin, the more our natural self can shine through…which to me, is truly the most beautiful part of us.

Amp up the Skincare

Finally, I know that sometimes the reason we choose to wear so much foundation isn’t because we want to, it’s because we feel like we have to. One of the most frustrating things in the world is uneven skin and breakouts. So many times I’ve wanted to rock the “no makeup” look, but all I could focus on was all the dark spots and little pumps that I wasn’t covering up. I use to cover everything with tons of makeup until I realized that wasn’t the solution. The real solution was taking better care of my skin. Your skin is the most important factor in our beauty routine, which means it’s something we should be willing to spend some time working on each day. Three things I have started making a part of my routine have been to (1) make sure and wash off all my makeup at the end of the day, (2) keep my skin hydrated with a moisturizer that works well with my skin type or use a rose water spray, and (3) try out different face masks to help with pores and blackheads rather than picking at them with my fingernails. Each of these changes has helped my skin tremendously, but it didn’t happen overnight. It’s a continual process…but it’s so worth it!

I hope these tips will help you also let your natural beauty shine through. I pray that you will always know that the person God created you to be is the most beautiful face you can put out there. No amount of makeup or changes to your hair will ever make you prettier than the person you are naturally. Therefore, my final natural beauty tip for you today would be to let self-love shine through. To see your own value, worth, and beauty…just the way you are. You are God’s creation, which means you are beautifully and wonderfully made. Embrace that.

Loving you today and always, friends.

Love in Christ,

Helen Elizabeth
